Oh, New Years. When we all resolve to eat better, get back to the gym, and take up meditation. What if you could make five easy resolutions that would actually help you improve your marketing and grow your business? Here are my top 5 suggestions:
- I resolve to pick my social platforms carefully. Yes, it’s fun to do Facebook Live and SnapChat and all the other new apps that the cool kids are using. But unless your customers are using them, they’re more of a distraction than a value to your business.
- I resolve to stick to my brand. Your brand has a personality and a voice – be true to it. Trust it. Don’t just hop on the latest trends. (See Resolution #1.)
- I resolve to be consistent with my marketing. Going back to those personal goals of eating better, going to the gym, and taking up meditation – they’re all about consistency. The same is true with your marketing efforts. The best thing you can do is be consistent. Even if your efforts are small – consistency builds together.
- I resolve to respect my customers. Your customers are smart people. Value them and respect their time and privacy the way you want companies to respect you. Don’t sell your lists, and don’t email more than you said you would.
- I resolve to trust the data. Gut instincts get you so far, but the numbers don’t lie. Learn what your data means, and then trust it when you’re making decisions. If you get more orders from Facebook than Twitter, then invest more in your Facebook presence.
